May 16, 1965 - Explosion at Bien Hoa USAF Base

On this day in 1965, the U.S. Air Force Base located at Bien Hoa in South Vietnam was destroyed. It started when a bomb on one of the aircraft accidentally exploded and lead to a devastating chain reaction. Over 40 U.S. and South Vietnamese planes were destroyed. Twenty-seven American servicemen were killed while about 95 were injured. Four South Vietnamese were also killed.
